Why is this medication prescribed?

Tolnaftate is used for the treatment of tinea pedis (athlete’s foot). It is also used for skin infections such as jock itch, and ringworm. Tolnaftate comes under the class of medication called an antifungal. It works by stopping the growth of fungus that cause skin infections, including athlete’s foot, jock itch, and ringworm. Tolnaftate can also be used to prevent an athlete’s foot from coming back.

How should this medicine be used?

Tolnaftate is available for use on the skin in the form of a cream, liquid, powder, gel, spray powder, and spray liquid for application to the skin. Usually, doctors will prescribe this medication to be used twice a day. If you want to get the most benefits from the tolnaftate then use this medication regularly in order. And always use it at the same time each day. Until consulting your health care professional won’t try to stop using this medication.

It will take two to three days to decrease the symptoms of burning and soreness of athlete’s foot or the itching of jock itch and if the condition is not improving in two to three days then talk to your doctor or pharmacist. Continue treatment with this medication for at least two weeks even if your symptoms have disappeared. If you are taking this product then you should have taken a total of 4-6 weeks of treatment with tolnaftate.

Before using this medication always wash your hand thoroughly with soap and water very gently and dry your affected area. After that, take enough medication to cover the affected area and then you can apply the medication and then rub it very gently until the medicine disappears. In the last wash your hands again to remove the medication. And unless directed to do so by your health care professional, do not try to cover or wrap the affected area after applying the medication.

When you are using the spray form of this medication then before each use to mix the medication properly, you should have shaken well and from a distance of at least 6 inches do spray at the affected area. When you are using this medication near your eye, nose, or mouth then try to avoid getting this medication into your eyes. In case you get the fluocinolone topical in your eye, nose, or mouth then rinse with plenty of water.

Don’t try to use this medication more or less often than prescribed by your health care professionals and use the tolnaftate exactly in the same quantity that your doctor prescribed you to take. Remember to use this medication regularly at the same time each day. If you have any type of question or anything that you don’t understand then ask that to your health care professionals and follow your prescription label carefully as directed. If you are using this medication and you are feeling well then continue to use tolnaftate don’t try to stop using it without consulting your health care professional. There are some other gels also avilable tyat your doctor will suggest you such as clindamycin phosphate and benzoyl peroxide gel.

Notes: Don’t ever try to share this medication with other people. And always remember that this medication is only used for skin infections and doctors prescribed this medicine only for current  conditions and don’t use it later. Don’t let this medication get into your eyes, nose, mouth, or vagina, it could be harmful to you. After 2 weeks of treatment for jock itch and 4 weeks of treatment for athlete’s foot or ringworm, if your condition persists or gets worse at any time then you should have to contact your healthcare professionals.

What happens if I overdose?
